Glasgow Open 6th & 7th April

The annual Glasgow Open Fencing Competition will be held on the weekend of 6th/7th April at Hutchesons Grammar School.

Entry has now closed, but even if you are not competing, it will be a great opportunity to watch some fencing.

GWEFC will be running the cafe both days.

Congratulations to Sheila

Many congratulations to Sheila Anderson for becoming the British Veterans Fencing Women's Foil National Champion for the second year in a row. She is also the Cat 3 Champion for the second year.

The event was held at the Manchester Fencing Centre on Fri 22nd to Sun 24th March.

Training starts back 11th January

Our training sessions will start back on Thursday 11th January at 7:30pm

Xmas Night Out 2023

We will close over the Christmas period, and our last night of training will be Thursday 7th December.

However, we will have an outing on Thursday 14th December for Drinks and Food at The Athol Arms starting at 7:30 pm. The Athol has reminded us that they are a cash-only establishment at the moment.

Still to be confirmed, but we expect to start back after the holidays on Thursday 11th January 2024.

Summer Closure

Cally Uni has informed us of some planned closures over the summer. Thursday 15th June will be our last night fencing until Thursday 3rd August.

Although unlikely, we may be able to arrange a short-term venue for GWEFC training during this closure.

We will attempt to find information as to the summer opening times for other nearby clubs. We courage all fencers to keep training where ever possible.

Veterans 4 Nations Selection

Scottish Fencing has posted the team selection for the Veterans 4 Nations match in Dublin. Several of our regular fencers have been selected:

Women’s Foil

  • Ruth Davidson
  • Helen Pitt

Men’s Sabre

The event will be held on Saturday 25th March at Trinity College Sports Complex, Pearse Street, Dublin 2

Sorry for the late notice, but Cally Uni has cancelled our booking for Thursday 16th Feb.

Beginners Night - 23rd Feb

GWEFC is pleased to offer a free introduction to Fencing course at 7:30 pm on Thursday 23rd February 2023

(Sorry, Cally Uni had to cancel our event on 16th Feb due to health and safety concerns on floor repairs)

No training on 9th Feb

Unfortunately, Cally Uni needs to close the ARC main hall for the week beginning 6th Feb for maintenance. This means we are unable to train on Thursday 9th February.
