Limited Numbers for Restart

Unfortunately, due to a limitation on the number of people allowed in each session, for the moment we cannot accept any new members. We hope to be able to start accepting new people in January.

Scottish Open 2022

Scottish Fencing has announced that the date for next year's Scottish Open will be the weekend of 26th/27th February 2022.

As in recent years, the event will be held at the National Sports Centre Inverclyde, Burnside Road, Largs KA30 8RW.

Training Restart

GWEFC will open for training again at 7:30 pm on Thursday 14th Oct at the ARC Building, Cally Uni. Please do not arrive too early to allow for Social Distancing.

There will be no changing facilities or showers available, so come dressed ready for training. We will be concentrating on getting people back to fencing fitness - that means footwork and bladework - but there will be some fighting on the box available too.

Everyone must wear COVID face coverings in common areas within the ARC and when not actively exercising.

Delayed restart of Fencing

Now that we have moved to Level 0, over 18s can resume indoor Fencing. However, the ARC at Cally Uni is still being used as a COVID testing centre for the time being. We have been advised that it is likely to be September before the hall is available for sports.

GWEFC are actively looking for a new venue (at least for the Summer) and are in discussion with other Fencing Clubs about the sharing of facilities.

COVID-19

The ARC building will be closed from Tue 17 March - GWEFC training has been suspended until further notice.

Caledonian University Update

As the more observant of you may have seen, Cally Uni has been in the news recently. They are in the process of converting the ARC building into a COVID Testing Centre. While this will be of benefit to the wider community, it will be the detriment of some other groups. In particular, GWEFC, since our training venue will now be unavailable to us until at least January 2021.
